There are three ways to become a police officer.
First, you can graduate from the Korea National Police
University. This university is a national specialized four-
year university, educating police cadets. If you want to
enter this university, you have to have excellent grades
and good fitness. After graduating from this university,
you start as a police lieutenant. Second, you can take
an executive examination. If you pass the executive
examination, you start as a police lieutenant after a year
of training. Lastly, you can take an open recruitment
examination. If you pass the examination, you are
designated a constable after a few months of education.
Many people enter the police administration department
in Dong-guk University next to the Korea National Police
University. Because Dong-guk University has the most
successful candidates every year.
Police officers need good reasoning power, good
judgement for criminal investigation work, physical
strength, and the ability to adapt quickly. When facing a
civil petitioner, they should have flexibility, persistence,
and self-control. They also need a sense of duty and
service to society.
