The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen
Enola then meets Tewkesbury on the train, saving him from an accident, and ends up teaming
up with him until they arrive in London. They part after arriving in London, and she follows the
clues to find her mother. Enola remembers that she and her mother often played a puzzle game
where she would leave hints in a newspaper that only her mother would understand. That’s how
Enola finds out that her mother had been working for the rights of disadvantaged peoples. Enola
was shocked because this was a different person than she had grown up knowing. Enola finds out
what her mother was trying to do and that Tewkesbury was working with her. She also finds out
that Tewkesbury is in danger, so she goes to find and help him.
In the end, she guesses that the criminal is Tewkesbury’s uncle, so they go to his home. At that
time, a person shoots at them, and they are surprised to find out that the shooter and real criminal
is his grandmother. Eventually, Enola saves him from danger, and he persuades people that
they should sign the Declaration of the Rights of Man of the Citizen. He plays a big role in policy-
making, leading to a happy ending.
The motif of this movie is the Declaration of the Rights of Man of the Citizen that reflects the
social situation of that time. In the movie, putting Enola into a boarding school by force is a symbol
of the wealthy classes wanting to stay on top while depriving others of their human rights and
freedoms. When you see this movie, you can think that the world has changed in the 21st century,
but I wonder if our society is really protecting our human rights and freedoms. This movie shows
the social situation well, but it doesn’t just focus on the situation and explain everything that could
happen. If you consider such social situations when you watch this movie, I have doubt that you
will enjoy it.
