use masks to ensure adequate supplies for health care workers, and most people do not
wear masks normally. In the West, wearing masks is not common. People wearing
masks were avoided or even attacked. Asians wearing a mask are mistaken
as patients or were laughed at. Due to cultural influences, people thought
they should not wear masks through their own judgment.
The second factor is personal differences. Although it is obligatory
for people to wear a mask, it can be seen as oppressive. This
is because most people may think it's natural to wear masks,
but a small number of people may think it's not essential.
They have the right to wear and take off masks according
to their choice. Some people may think wearing a mask is
unnecessary because of personal differences of opinion
They may think think that wearing it is good for others
and can be viewed as considerate, but if they don't want
to wear one, they shouldn’t have to.
We conducted a survey of first-year students at Myeongshin
Girls' High School, asking whether the idea of wearing a mask
was oppressive was a cultural difference or a personal difference.
Eight out of sixty students who participated in the survey thought
it was a cultural difference while 52 voted that it was a personal
difference. It is not possible to answer if it is personal or cultural difference
that leads to people think of wearing a mask as oppressive. Currently,
COVID-19 seems to be on the downturn. Isn't this the effect of people's correct
judgment? Until the day that COVID-19 no longer comes around, people around the
world must pay special attention and make an effort.
