                     Interviews with our New Teachers

                       An interview with Yeongseok Moon

                   Q. What have you felt the most worthwhile?

There isn’t a particular moment, but I do feel like that when the students prepare hard
                      for their debates.
                   Q. What do you think is the most important part of Korean history?

Korea can trace its history back more than four thousand years to the Gojoseon. All
the developments over that time may have been meaningful, but I personally think we
should focus on modern history. Especially, I think we need to focus on the Japanese
occupation period. With our lives being in the present, I don’t think we should look too
far into the past when looking for lessons that will help us prepare for our future.
                   Q. What would you do if you hadn’t become a history teacher?

If I hadn’t become a history teacher, I would have been working as a Greenpeace
activist. Especially, I would love to help in the marine protection field.

                        An interview with Hong-gyu Moon

                   Q. Is there a reason you were drawn to math?

I don’t think I majored in math for any specific reason. At the time I was preparing
for the entrance examination, I was better at math than other important subjects like
Korean or English. I first majored in natural science in the college of engineering as
it was very popular at that time. But I didn’t think I was very good at engineering, so I
chose math. The most important reason why I studied in the college of education was
one of my teachers. My teacher told me, “If you study math, it will be better for you to
go into the college of education if you want to get a job and make a living.” That’s why
I went into the college of education.
                   Q. Did you think majoring in other subjects besides for math?

Like I said, the college of engineering was very popular at when I went to college. But
I didn't have a specific dream when I was in high school, so I chose math because I
liked it and was good at it. I didn't think about other subjects besides math.
