KKOTTONGNAE
Jung Ah-hyeon, Jo Min-ji
The 1st grade students of Myeong-shin Girls' High School
went to Kkottongnae to do volunteer work for 3 days and
2 nights.
On the first day, students were divided into two groups
(happy group and loving group). A simple welcoming
ceremony was held, and there was a welcoming event
where the guide teachers danced for the new volunteers.
We also listened to one of the nun's lecture on
Kkottongnae and played various games to build cooperation
and friendship in each group.
Then, the students took part in a special experience. Their eyes were covered with cloth, putting them

people in general. Many students felt they could better understand the disabled through this experience,
and this concluded their first meaningful day.
On the second day, after listening to one more lecture about Kkottongnae, each student went to take part
in volunteer work of their choice. There were various volunteering activities: taking care of young children,
taking care of the elderly with dementia2), and taking
care of those who were mentally and physically ill.
Through taking part in these activities, students
could rethink the true meaning of volunteer work
and experience firsthand the effects of their labor.
It was a true opportunity to access the minds of
the less fortunate people in society, and students
performed well in their roles.
Then, the students took part in a coffin
experience and a do-dream experience. Based
on assuming a student’s own death, the coffin
