2019 Eunoia

  Camellia Hill
On the second day, we first went to Camellia5) Hill. Camellia Hill is the largest camellia tree garden in
the eastern hemisphere, and it has about 500 different species of camellia trees and 6,000 trees from
80 different countries. There were six out of the eight fragrant camellia species in the world, so we
could sample the various fragrances of the camellia trees. It was April then, so beautiful flowers such as
camellia, hydrangea6), and rose welcomed us. There were various types of each of these flowers. It was a
space where we could be one with nature and take pictures with beautiful flowers in the photo zones. In
addition, the viewing route was marked on floors or with milestones, making it easy to find our way.

  The Mapark
After visiting Camelia Hill, we had lunch and went to the Mapark. The Mapark is the world’s first hors-
themed park, and it has a riding system run through a membership program. It also offered a variety of
experiences for tourists such as horse performances, horse-riding programs, and cart rides. The best
among these was the horse performance named A Millennial Empire! Goguryeo, an equestrian7) play with
brilliant horsemanship, humor, and history from the life story of Goguryeo’s progenitor8), Jumong. The
show displayed dozens of outstanding Mongolian horses that put on a spectacular horseback riding show.

  Pyoseon Folk Village Museum
On the third day, we first went to the Pyoseon Folk Village Museum. The Pyoseon Folk Village is a place
where the traditional customs of Jeju are gathered on one plateau9). Unlike most folk village museums,
there were many places to take pictures with pretty flowers – adding some excitement to the trip - and
places to learn about and enjoy the life of Jeju in the 1800s.

  Eco Land
We went to Eco Land on the last leg of the school trip. Eco Land theme park has a Lincoln train that was
handcrafted in England and modeled by Baldwin, a steam locomotive company from the 1800s. It is also
a place where you can experience the 300 square kilometers
of Gotjawal forest by train, riding to visit the several themed
areas of Eco Land. While on the train journey, you can see the
various insects, animals, and plants of the mysterious Gotjawal
forest. We particularly enjoyed the colorful tulips of the April
tulip festival.
