On Friday October 11th, Myeong-shin
Girls’ High School students went on
a field trip. The plan was to go from
Deoksugung to Cheonggyecheon.
In the morning, all the students
gathered in front of Deoksugung to
start their tour.
There were many activities ranging
from a midday music concert in
Deoksugung to an exhibition of
holographic art, and the students
enjoyed all of them. The music concert
next to the museum in the palace
was performed by a band which consisted of a drummer, a guitarist, a cellist, a pianist and a vocalist. It
was one of the most popular events of the day. In the garden, students then viewed an exhibition where
holograms were arranged in a circle with the sun shining through them. The angles of the sunshine allowed
students to see different shapes. They could also touch the art pieces and take photos with them. Finally,
the students watched a ceremony enacted by the Royal Guard of Deoksugung Palace which has been
carried out three times a day since the Joseon
Dynasty and the Sungnyemun Gate Chief Changing
Ceremony which is done 8 times a day.
Deoksugung was the palace of emperor Dae
Han and was called Gyungwoongung at that time.
The history of it all started when Seon Jo came
back from Eu-joo. But, after Emperor Gwang Hae-
goon resigned and moved to Changdeokgung,
the area lost its role as the seat of the emperor.
After In Jo became king, it became even less
important. Finally, Go Jong came back to build
