Information Technology and
the Medical System
10918 Lee Yu-jin
Try to think about a field that does not use information
technology in the least. Maybe you will not be able to
think of one. Information technology is such a natural
part of our world that all fields of the 21st century
will have used this technology in some minor
part of their work. If so, where and how was this
technology used? Especially with the attention
12
telemedicine is getting because of COVID-19,
how has information technology and medical
care combined?
First, there is a service called Flu Trend. This
is designed by taking advantage of the tendency
of people to search the Internet for information
Easier Health Check with
about the flu. Especially, the Flu Trend service
Electromagnetic Devices
has a function that can predict the flow of the flu by
figuring out how often people searched Google for the
symptoms that appear when a person gets the Flu. Through this
service, an outbreak of the flu was detected ten days before the US Center for Disease
13
Control and Prevention published information about it, and the system was judged to
be effective. However, even those who don’t have the flu searched for related words,
skewing results, so experts have expressed caution, stating that the credibility of big data
is not completely certain.
On the other hand, from the patient's point of view, an LoMT device gives hospital
patients more convenience by reducing the time of their visits. The LoMT can collect and
analyze an individual’s medical data through wearable devices, such as smart watches,
and report that information to medical and health care systems and services. This can
reduce unnecessary hospital visits, long waiting times, and hospitalization times by
allowing patients to take many of the necessary tests in advance. Thus, we can soon
expect a new era to open when we will be able to treat a disease online.
