The reactions of the students are divided in two. Students who like the system have said things like “I
like it because I can study what I really want to learn. I think if I choose subjects that I want to learn, I can
take a step forward into my career while studying,” and “I was not interested in all class subjects, but, if
the high school credit system is established, I can focus on my favorite subjects.” Students who don't like
the system have said, “It’s pretty complicated and awkward to choose subjects. It gives me a headache,”
“I think it’ll be uncomfortable to move from class to class according to the chosen subject. I don’t like
that I don’t have my own classroom and my own space,” “The school doesn’t give us enough information
to choose. I’m worried this will effect my preparations for the university entrance examination,” or “It will
increase competition for popular classes.”

Q. How is our school going to run the high school credit system?
A. Our school is going to run it as a pioneer school in 2020 excepting 3rd grade students. The student’s
individual schedule will be made according to the subjects chosen. However, it doesn't mean that individual
classrooms and homeroom teachers will disappear. Students will have a meeting with their homeroom
teachers in their own classrooms which will then be used to house other subjects. Then, students should
move to another classroom in accordance with their chosen subjects to take that class. It’s a bit like
the university system. The individual student lockers will be placed in home bases1) and, when a student
wishes to study alone, she can use the various study rooms and home bases. In 2020, we are going to run
