fact that they portraited Jim Crow as a fool with bustling4) gestures expresses the prejudices that white
people had towards black people. The Jim Crow Law, existing from 1876 to 1965, was named after this
character. This was the most segregating law existing in American history.

Also, at 1 minute 56 seconds of the music video, Gambino murders all of the members of a church choir
after being handed an automatic weapon from someone off screen. This scene represents the Charleston
Church shooting case of 2015.

The South Carolina Charleston Church shooting was a case where a twenty-one-year-old white
man, Dylann Roof, indiscriminately shot people at a church frequented by black people. He entered the
Charleston African Church on the night of June 17th and shot people who were studying the Bible. The
criminal was wearing a wig5), a fake nose, and had dyed part of his skin. Through his actions, 9 black people
were killed and 3 were seriously injured. The criminal ran away right after but was soon captured. The
reason of this crime was to intentionally start a race war. Barack Obama, who attended the funeral to pray
for victims, made a famous and eloquent6) speech during the service.

In the final part of the music video, white people chase after Childish Gambino, and he runs with a face
full of fear. Are the people of the world going to chase and be chased because of the color of their skin?
Martin Luther King said,“I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will
not be judged by color of their skin but the content of their character.”
