How has Myeongshin Girls' High School
dealt with COVID-19?

As the COVID-19 pandemic began, the opening of schools around Korea was postponed.
Most high schools started in late May, and students were required to follow new school
rules and cope with new changes. Students are now required to submit a self-diagnosis
report, checking their body temperature and symptoms before going to school each
morning. This self-diagnosis system was implemented to check each student’s conditions
remotely. It has been a key part of socially distanced learning. The health condition self-
diagnosis app, launched on September 7th, is convenient in that it is less trouble than
accessing a website every morning. Myeongshin Girls' High School also replaced the
normal end-of-period bell with the song “Open the Door.” This song has raised student
awareness of the importance of ventilation with its lyrics reminding students to open
windows and doors every hour.
To have students keep a certain distance from each other, footpad stickers were placed
on the floor every meter from the main gate to the stairs. In addition, teachers and
students are required to check their own body temperature by using an ultraviolet camera
on the first floor every morning and at lunch time. Then, they write down this information
on a paper placed in their classrooms. Also, at the beginning of the first semester, each
student was provided with a mask, a bottle of hand sanitizer, and a neck strap for their
masks. At the beginning of the second semester, the Incheon Metropolitan Office of
Education gave out disinfectant wipes and a bottles of hand sanitizer
Moreover, there have been changes in school attendance for each grade level. At the
beginning of the year, the first and second graders alternated when they went to school
every week. Of course, the first and second grade students voiced their regret that they
