Myeongshin’s UNESCO
LAN-based Charity Bazaar
20412 Hyewon Yeom
Myeongshin High School is a UNESCO school. UNESCO schools run a global
education sharing business, helping educationally underprivileged people, such as
children who don’t have schools nearby them and female or disabled students who
are deprived of their educational rights by discrimination and prejudice. They run two
campaigns to help raise funds for this global educational sharing business: a money
box campaign and bazaar markets.
Starting November 16th, one of Myeongshin’s most important student clubs, the
UNESCO club, held the Myeongshin UNESCO Charity bazaar over a five-day period.
They collected goods from students and teachers from November 2nd to November
13th. This included goods that students could use in their daily life like clothes, books,
stationary supplies, and daily necessities. The earnings from the bazaar were all
donated to UNESCO Korea in order to develop educational
spaces in regions around the world where education was
lacking. Due to COVID-19, the
UNESCO club couldn’t hold their
bazaar in person as they usually
did. Instead, they decided to
hold it on the internet. They
created a KakaoTalk channel
to sell the goods online in
an efficient manner. What
follows is an interview with the
president of the UNESCO club
about the details of the bazaar.
