School Trip to
Jeju Island

          Da-yeon Yoon, Su-min Oh

After arriving at Jeju Airport on the first day, we went straight to Hallajung to eat pork and then went to
Seongsan Ilchulbong. Unlike other mountains on Jeju island, Seongsan Ilchulbong is a hydro-volcano1) which
was shaped by the eruption of magma underwater. There were lots of people at Seongsan Ilchulbong
because other school students and tourists were also visiting. As we climbed to the top of Seongsan
Ilchulbong, we could see the ocean and the villages of Jeju all at once. Although it rained in the morning,
the sky was so clear. The rape blossoms2) were a beautiful sight on the way down. Despite having a sign
which said,“Do not enter,” Chinese tourists entered the flower fields and took pictures. As we got back to
the entrance, students lined up to drink Hallabong juice and snack on peanut ice cream.

On the second day, the place we first went to was Handam coastal
walk and Gwakji beach. Many students said it was their favorite place
because they could take a walk next to the open sea. A winding3)
trail along the coastline keeps visitors from getting bored during the
walking. The three colors of blue in the sea really made us realize that
we were on Jeju Island. Moreover, fresh air and sea breeze welcomed
